Happy March!
March is here with bright, sunny days ahead! After February’s cold snap, we look forward to seeing students coming EVERY DAY as we move into a busy month. Report cards are coming up, so it’s important that everyone is present and engaged: every day of learning counts! We reached the 100th day of school in the last week of February, but unfortunately missed the celebration due to the cold weather, we will have a make up spirit week at the end of this month. We will also be cheering on the athletes from Cambridge Bay who are going to Arctic Winter Games! Have fun representing Cambridge Bay and Nunavut at the games!
As we share these updates for the month ahead, we also want to acknowledge a loss felt deeply within our school community. We are saddened by the passing of Ruth, who taught at Kullik for 35 years and made a profound impact on our students, staff, and community. We will miss her greatly and hold her legacy with care.
Reminders
Health & Safety: Please make sure students are dressed warmly in these cold temperatures. The school will notify families of DEA closures via Facebook if temperatures drop below –55°C and/or visibility becomes unsafe.
Recess: Outdoor recess helps students build friendships and social skills. If your child needs to stay indoors, please send a note or call the school. Students go outside unless temperatures reach –45°C or colder.
Lunches: Take away lunches will continue every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
In March, we will continue focusing on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) principles:
Aajiiqatigiinniq – decision-making through discussion and consensus: Let’s talk to our family, partners and friends before making choices.
Pilimmaksarniq – learning through observation, practice, and effort: Work hard on reading, writing and learning; practice makes better!
